The collection's evolution captured the diverse and dynamic expressions of artists across India. As we look back and continue to enjoy the works of those who are now recognized as India's Modern Masters, we are proud to have supported their creative vision. We at Citi are committed to celebrating the inspired hues and notes of India's rich culture and aesthetic legacy.
N S BENDRE (1910-1992)
Narayan Shridhar Bendre is one of India's foremost painters of his time. After studying art in Indore, he moved to Kashmir where he created some stunning landscapes. An avid traveller, Bendre toured USA and Europe in 1947, which exposed him to many styles and methods. He was also an artist in residence at Shantiniketan in 1945, which gave him a chance to interact with many prominent Indian artists. Bendre created his own style, mixing cubist, expressionist and abstract tendencies with Indian themes. He held many shows in India and abroad and was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1991.
